“Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable of more than you imagine.”
Believing in oneself is one of the first steps to success. Without confidence, overcoming life’s challenges, obstacles, and setbacks can seem impossible, causing many to give up before even trying. Clarity of goals, on the other hand, provides a clear vision, making it easier to set priorities, stay focused, and measure progress. This story is about Sunil, a man whose self-belief and clarity of vision led him to fulfill his dreams and achieve his goals despite the obstacles he faced in life.
Born on July 23, 1986, to a drunkard father, Dr Sunil channelled all his energy to become one of the best orators of his time. As Audrey Hepburn aptly put it, “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!”
Early Struggles and Turning Points
Sunil's journey was fraught with challenges from the beginning. Failing in the 8th grade due to the wrong company, he escaped to Mumbai to get away from his father, only to return home after four years. This period marked a turning point as he refocused on his studies, reigniting his interest in academics by the 10th grade.
In the 12th grade, Sunil began participating in debate competitions, winning first prize in over 70 out of 100 competitions. During his graduation in Arts, he participated in almost 450 debate competitions, winning 420 of them. His prowess earned him two gold medals in youth festivals organized by the university and another gold medal from the Cultural Ministry of Maharashtra.
Rising through the Ranks
Dr Sunil’s journey as an orator saw him becoming an Akashvani anchor and taking up private anchoring jobs for small programs. This helped him develop contacts with renowned and influential people, earning him the title of "Maharashtra’s Young Speaker" and recognition as a "shining star" in the world of oratory.
However, at the age of 21, Sunil's father forced him to marry and take on the family responsibilities after his retirement. Sunil relocated to Pune with his wife and six-month-old baby, taking up a job as a watchman at a construction site. Despite this, his passion for anchoring remained undiminished. His first anchoring assignment at the inauguration ceremony of the same construction site marked the beginning of his rise in the field, leading to more anchoring assignments. Sunil balanced two jobs, working as an anchor during the day and a watchman at night.
Academic and Professional Achievements
During a book launch event, Dr Sunil was approached by the Suryadatta Institute for a PR position. He accepted the offer and seized the opportunity to complete his education. Over time, he acquired multiple degrees from the same college, adding feathers to his cap and eventually establishing himself as a professor at the Suryadatta Institute.
Today, Dr Sunil Dhangar is a sought-after speaker at Josh Talks, and a book has been authored about his life titled "Shabd Jaadugar Sunil." His story is a testament to the power of perseverance and self-belief.
A Legacy of Resilience
Sunil's journey from a small-town boy to a celebrated orator and professor exemplifies the power of turning adversities into opportunities. His relentless pursuit of dreams, despite the hardships, underscores the importance of never giving up.
As Martin Luther King Jr. said, "Keep moving forward. No matter how hard it may be, keep moving." Sunil's life embodies this principle, demonstrating that great things take time and that unwavering self-belief can lead to extraordinary achievements.
