The prestigious Quambiant Global Grace Cancer Run 2024 was officially launched on Friday evening in a grand ceremony held at Hotel Daspalla in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including Telangana’s Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Smt. Seethakka, and renowned comedian and film star Mr. Ali. Together, they unveiled the T-shirt and Finisher’s Medal for what is anticipated to be the world’s largest cancer awareness run.
The event was organized by the Grace Cancer Foundation, led by its Founder and President, Dr. Chinnababu Sunkavalli. The launch also saw the participation of key figures such as Dr. Pavan Gorukanti, Director of Yashoda Hospitals Group; Ramesh Kaza, Secretary General of SCSC; Prashant Nandella, President of HYSEA; and Krupakar Reddy, the Race Director, among others.
Scheduled for October 6th at Gachibowli, Hyderabad, this year’s run is set to make history, with over 1 lakh participants from more than 130 countries expected to join both physically and virtually. The event aims to raise funds for free cancer screenings for underserved communities, a crucial step in early detection and prevention.
During the launch, Smt. Seethakka emphasized the importance of humor in healing, crediting Mr. Ali’s comedy for its therapeutic value. She also praised Dr. Chinnababu for his extraordinary contributions to cancer awareness, despite his modest-sounding name (“Chinna” meaning “small” in Telugu). “Though his name is small, he is making great strides in cancer awareness,” she said.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ali applauded Dr. Chinnababu for his selfless service to society. "Doctors like Dr. Chinnababu, who combine service with medical expertise, are rare. In our lives, we all turn to doctors, just as we turn to God," he remarked, adding that laughter, too, plays a crucial role in wellness. Having acted in over 1,250 films in six languages over 45 years, Mr. Ali reaffirmed his belief in the healing power of laughter.
Dr. Pavan Gorukanti highlighted the critical role of early cancer screening, urging the media to amplify the message. He emphasized that alongside screening, maintaining physical fitness and reducing calorie intake can prevent 90% of lifestyle diseases, including cancer.
The 2024 run will be the 7th edition of the Grace Cancer Run, organized under the theme "Run for Grace, Screen for Life." Dr. Chinnababu Sunkavalli expressed his pride in the foundation’s efforts, which have expanded across 130 countries. "This is not just a run but a global movement for cancer prevention," he shared, noting that participants can choose from 2K, 5K, and 10K categories.
Grace Cancer Foundation, the organization behind the event, has been at the forefront of cancer education, early detection, and research. Based in Hyderabad, the foundation’s mission is to alleviate the cancer burden, especially for marginalized communities, by offering education, screening, and treatment. "Early detection saves lives," Dr. Chinnababu emphasized, urging society to unite in the fight against cancer.
With cancer claiming 9.5 million lives globally each year, the foundation has taken proactive measures by conducting free screening camps and awareness programs in 10 countries spanning four continents. The Quambiant Global Grace Cancer Run plays a pivotal role in these efforts, channeling funds to cancer screenings for the underprivileged.
The event is supported by several prominent organizations, including Quambiant Developers, Rayn, AMCHAM India, HYSEA, SCSC, Natco, WindStream, LIC, Movers.com, CIRO, Nirmaam, CII, BMS, and Yashoda Hospitals.
